Don’t darn that dream. Darn that sock.

Back in the day, people used to repair socks rather than chuck them out. In the upcoming era of hyperinflation, the dollar store may become the hundred thousand dollar store, and we’ll just have to make do with what we have for a little longer.

I’ve never darned a sock. I do, however, remember wearing socks that my mother had darned. This could be a useful skill to pick up.

Research revealed that a darning mushroom or egg is essential to darning competently. Basically, it’s a solid, slightly rounded object that’s inserted into the sock to reveal where the holes are, and to provide you with a solid surface to work with. No vintage wooden eggs on hand? You could also use a tennis ball, or possibly a round maraca.
