In a world without tissues, cool, cotton handkerchiefs are the way to go.

Call them the height of sophistication. Call them snot rags or hankies. Call them the environmentally friendly option, or a dandy’s delight. Regardless of your take, you might want to invest in a dozen or so nice cotton handkerchiefs for the day when Kleenex and toilet paper grow scarce.
They’re useful for any number of things, including:
- Blowing your nose
- Cleaning your glasses
- As a small filter to remove twigs and pebbles from water
- To clean schmutz off a small child’s face
- Cleaning sweat from your brow
- Covering your face when you cough or sneeze
- As an impromptu serviette
- To gather and carry small items (say, yummy nuts that you just foraged)
You could wait until after TSHTF and just cut up some old fabrics. And, if you enjoy needlecraft, you could edge the squares up nicely.
But really, wouldn’t it be nicer to just have a proper handkerchief when the need arises?
