Going Grey Can Save Your Life

Everyone should have at least one Grey Man outfit… a set of clothes that allow you to explore your surroundings without drawing attention, or being notable in any way.
It could be jeans and a hoodie. If you live in a more upscale neighbourhood or a downtown business area, it might be more bougie. Regardless, you want to be able to blend in with your environment in order to see what’s going on, especially in times of unrest.
It’s important to avoid anything that might stand out. Logos, for instance. Bright clothing. Jewellery. If someone had to describe you from a distance, what could they say? Think Elliot Anderson from Mr. Robot, who’s utterly nondescript as he wanders about the city… although his furtive body language is far from ideal. It might actually draw attention in a SHTF scenario.
Whatever you do, don’t make eye contact. This instantly makes you memorable. You don’t have to look down… just focus on where you’re going. Not going anywhere in particular? Look like you are.
Being Grey goes beyond wearing the right thing. You want to move so that you blend in with the people around you. Don’t walk too slowly, or too quickly. Move at a steady pace. Don’t stand and gawk. See what others are doing, and adjust your pace accordingly. Don’t look as though you’re skulking or trying to hide. Stay near the edges of crowds. And get back to safety as soon as possible, in a casual way.
You want to look as though you’re out running an errand… purposeful, calm, focused.
If you’re female, don’t make it obvious. Tight or revealing clothing could make you more noticeable. It could also make you a target for violence. In a situation where lawlessness and violence run rampant, the ideal is to avoid potential conflict.
Also, don’t look as though you’re trying to be incognito. The “I’m a celebrity, so I”m wearing expensive shades and a designer hat in order to be invisible” isn’t the look you’re going for.
