Going gray part II – How to avoid detection in a world of surveillance.

Keeping a low profile so humans don’t notice you is one thing. Avoiding electronic surveillance and AI recognition is another.

Cameras have become ubiquitous. On main streets, every intersection and most businesses have cameras. Public transit tracks your every move on their systems. On side streets, homes watch over the delivery of parcels with Amazon cameras that do more than just keep the homeowners updated… they report back to a centralized database.

Some fixes seem obvious.. for instance, covering your face (masking CAN keep you safer… who knew?), and avoiding clothing with logos or observable features.

Did you know that Chinese officials analyzed people’s ears as a means of identification? Or that computers can use your gait… the way you walk… to track and identify you?

This video is a great look at both the threats that surveillance poses to privacy and a way to maintain anonymity if you need to move around the city. To disguise your gait, for instance, the author recommends tying a bandage around your knee. I highly recommend you watch this.
