A windup, solar powered radio/flashlight is really nice to have.

The power’s out. You’re sitting alone in the dark. In silence. Whimpering. Betcha you wish you had a nifty emergency radio!
From weather warnings to keeping track of official narratives about current events to warming the soul with music, a radio can help you remain connected, and alleviate isolation.
The ideal radio is small enough to be easily portable and includes both solar and windup charging options. It should include weather channel and shortwave options as well as AM and FM. You should also be able to use it as a flashlight, a reading light, and to charge your cell phone or other small devices.
Also, the sound should be reasonably good, considering its size.
I’m extremely fond of my Kaito KA500 Voyager Emergency Radio. It has all of the above options. The reception is decent. And the solar panel can be adjusted to face the sun. The bottom also includes a halogen light panel that doubles as a reading lamp. Plus, you’ve got a flashlight and flasher on the side.
I bought my Kaito at www.canadianpreparedness.com.
